Tips for Throwing a Caribbean Food Party

Just the word Caribbean can invoke memories of some far off place on a beach with the smell of some exotic flavor lingering in the air and being surrounded by bright colors and brighter drinks even if you’ve never been within a thousand miles of the Caribbean. So when picking a theme for a party consider throwing one with a Caribbean flare!

Food plays an important roll in the typical island family life. They spend days preparing a menu for holidays, festivals and other gatherings. But there’s no need for you to do the same. Below you will find some simple recepies for your get together!

Start your meal off with some Blue Crab Claws!

INGREDIENTS:
12 oz wt Blue Crab Claws
cup Passion Fruit Butter
1 loaf Cuban or French Baguette

PREPARATION:
Preheat oven to 500F.
Place crab in a baking dish.
Melt passion fruit butter in microwave and pour over the crab.
Slice the loaf of bread into desired size.
Place crab and bread in to the oven.
Remove from oven when bread is golden and crab is bubbling hot. This should take 4 -5 minutes. Enjoy!

Passion Fruit Butter
INGREDIENTS:
4 oz wt Butter, salted
cup Passion fruit pulp or nectar, no seeds
1 Tbsp Sugar
tsp Cajun Seasoning, your favorite

PREPARATION:
Heat butter in the microwave in 10 second intervals until the butter is softened but not melted.
Combine all the ingredients in a small mixing bowl and mix well using a wire whip until evenly combined.
Use immediately or refrigerate until needed.

For the main course, try Calypso Steak Kabobs
INGREDIENTS:
2 Tbsp Olive Oil
4 Bahamian Steak Kabobs
3/4 cup Kabob Basting Sauce
Salt and Pepper To Taste
2 Servings of Your Favorite Side-dish

PREPARATION:
Place the kabobs on a well oiled, preheated char-grill. During the grilling process turn the kabobs over every 2 minutes and baste the cooked sides lightly with basting sauce to develop a glaze. Grill to your desired doneness and lightly season with salt and pepper before removing from the grill. Serve with your favorite side dish and Enjoy!

Steak Marinating
8 Steak Chunks, 1 oz wt pieces
Your Favorite Teriyaki Marinade Cup
PREPARATION:
Place all the ingredients in a bowl and toss to coat and evenly mix. Cover and place on the bottom level of your refrigerator and let marinate for at least 4 hours.
Bahamian Steak Kabob Prep
8 Marinated Steak Chunks
1″ pieces of your favorite vegetables as needed
* 2 Bamboo or Metal Skewers 12″
* If bamboo skewers are used, soak in water for one hour prior to use to avoid burning during the grilling process

PREPARATION:
Skewer the marinated steak and vegetables until the skewers are full. Be sure to leave a little space between the items on the skewer to ensure even cooking.
Kabob Basting Sauce
cup Orange Juice Fresh Squeezed
cup Pickapeppa Sauce or BBQ Sauce
1 TbspBrown Sugar
2 tsp Chopped Cilantro
PREPARATION:
Mix the ingredients in a small bowl until evenly combined and set aside for grilling.

Other Must Haves: Ambiance. What is a party without music? Calypso music with the sounds of steel drum bands of course is good, but so are tunes from Jimmy Buffet and might be easier to find. Think of bright reds, greens and gold’s for napkin, plate, tablecloth and cups.
