One of my all time favourite chocolate bars is Cadbury’s Double Decker
The Double Decker
Cadbury created the Double Decker chocolate bar back in 1976 when the British public were fascinated by double decker buses.
The Double Decker bar stands out from others on the shelves as it has a bright orange and purple wrapper. Double Decker is written across the front of the wrapper in white writing. On the back of the wrapping is nutritional information.
Double Decker’s can be bought pretty much anywhere but I tend to buy mine from Tesco when I do my weekly shop. At Tesco, a single bar costs 38p and you can also buy a multi pack of 5 bars which costs 1.28.
The Double Decker
Once you open the wrapper, you have a fairly large chocolate bar which is about 5 inches long and about an inch thick. The chocolate on the top of the bar has a sort of rippled effect all along the top of the bar.
The Double Decker bar is very moreish and certainly different from you average chocolate bar. First, it has a layer of thick chocolate, followed by a layer of nougatine, and then a crunchy base with rice crispies inside. Nougatine is made from sugar / honey which is then mixed with a variety of roasted nuts This really does add lots of flavour to the already delicious Cadbury’s chocolate. The different textures of the chocolate bar all contrast well together. You have the crunchy base, the soft chocolate on top and then the slightly chewy nougatine in the middle. It does state that the bar contains cereals which I assume are in the crunchy base as I often taste something similar to rice crispies when I am eating it. On the whole, this chocolate bar taste yummy and very different from most other chocolate bars. I think that for its size, this chocolate bar is quite filling.
A 65 g chocolate bar has a whopping 300 calories and 13.6 grams of fat so this is in no way very healthy for you! The nutritional information is written in extremely tiny writing on the back of the wrapper so is quite hard to find – which is good as it makes me feel less guilty about how fattening it is!
To anyone who has never tried this you have no idea what you are missing out on. I really like the Double Decker because its very different to other chocolate bars on the market, with the inclusion of nougat and cereal in the bar. They are reasonably priced and make for a good snack. The only downside is that they are not good for waistlines!
