Great Ground Turkey Recipes

Ground turkey is a great alternative to ground beef, pork, or chicken. This great protein food is excellent to incorporate in the diet because it’s loaded with other nutrients that are beneficial to the body. In order to enhance and include more flavors, it’s best to add chopped herbs and spices. Moreover, the dark meat has more in-depth flavors; therefore, a great rule of thumb is to combine both the white and dark portions. Like ground beef, ground turkey is very versatile and can be cooked in many ways. However, ten ways to use and indulge in this mouthwatering goodness are:

Turkey loaf

Everyone is used to the beef or pork version of the meatloaf. So instead, substitute these for turkey. Add chopped herbs like parsley and basil to the poultry. Also, add eggs, garlic and dried seasoning of salt and pepper and any other ingredients to taste. Combine all ingredients and place in a loaf tin. Baste turkey with a little honey, ketchup and wine vinegar for a sweet and tangy taste. Bake in oven until done.

Turkey balls

Make a quick pesto sauce consisting of herbs, garlic, olive oil and dried seasoning to taste. Brown balls in skillet in a little olive oil. Then, simmer them in a tomato sauce. Serve over spaghetti and garnish with chopped herb of choice.


Make delicious, tender and juicy burgers by incorporating similar spices and herbs in ground turkey. Try not to over work patties. Cook on grill or in skillet on stove top. Serve on warm buns with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and onions.

Shepherd’s pie

Make a succulent and delicious shepherd’s pie. Season ground turkey with salt and pepper. Add onions and tomato paste and set aside. Defrost green peas and set aside. Boil and mash Irish potatoes. Add sour cream and a pat butter to potatoes. Season to taste. Add layer of mashed potatoes to greased dish. Then, add layer of ground turkey and sprinkle green peas. Continue to make more layers until the final layer is mashed potatoes. Drizzle with a little olive oil and bake pie for approximately 30 minutes.

Turkey sauce

Season and brown turkey in skillet. Add chopped onions, garlic (optional), tomatoes and herbs over ground turkey. Utilize both canned and fresh tomatoes. Simmer ground turkey sauce over low to medium heat. Serve over pasta of choice with a garnish of fresh herb of choice.


Another excellent way to utilize ground turkey is to make a lasagna. Season with salt, pepper and dried herbs. Quickly brown and cook turkey and set aside. Combine ricotta and mozzarella cheese, and eggs in a bowl. Use ready made lasagna that requires no cooking or cook your own. Add sauce to baking dish then place lasagna on top. Add cooked ground turkey then a layer of cheese; then, sauce. Continue to make layers with the ingredients along with basil and/or oregano leaves. Finish layering with tomato sauce and cheese on top. Cover with foil and bake in preheated oven until done.


Season and cook your ground turkey. Chop some onions and tomatoes and set aside. Warm tortillas for a couple of minutes in oven or on the grill. Go ahead and make your tacos by frist adding the ground turkey, add diced onions and tomatoes. Then, sprinkle with cheese. Place tacos under broiler and quickly melt cheese. Top with sour cream and guacamole.

Turkey Torilla soup

Make a quick tortilla soup by sauteing diced onions in a sauce pot. Add ground turkey, garlic, salt and pepper to taste. Then, add chicken broth and some cream. Simmer, then proceed to add canned red beans. Serve soup and top with toasted torilla pieces.

Mac cheese and turkey pie

Make it a one pot meal by adding cooked ground turkey to a macaroni and cheese pie. Cook turkey and combine with the macaroni and cheese. Serve finished pie warm with a green salad.

Tomato stew/ground turkey

You can enjoy your ground turkey in a mouthwatering tomato stew by utilizing both fresh and canned tomatoes. Brown your ground turkey; then, add tomatoes and choice of herbs. Simmer over low heat until done. Servce over a bed of rice.
