Creamy Mushroom Gravy Fresh Mushroom Gravy

Mushroom gravy is a rich comfort food that adds a great flavor to a meal of chicken, beef or pork. It is a welcome addition to potatoes, pasta and other vegetable dishes. Here are two easy ways to make mushroom gravy.

For a traditional mushroom gravy that goes well with beef or pork you may want to use Portobello mushrooms.
Slice 1 cup of mushrooms into a medium skillet along with
……1/4 cup of olive oil and/or meat drippings and
……1/2 cup of diced onions.
When the vegetables are tender
– Add one cup of beef broth or bullion
– Mix 2 Tablespoons of flour in 1/4 cup of cold milk and add to the skillet slowly while stirring constantly.
– Add Salt, pepper, and garlic to taste and allow to thicken while continuing to stir constantly
– Additional milk or beef broth may be added to attain desired consistency.

That’s all it takes to make a delightful fresh brown mushroom gravy.

If you’d like a lighter colored mushroom gravy to serve with chicken, pasta, or vegetables you may choose ordinary white mushrooms.
Chop 1 cup of mushrooms coarsely into a medium skillet along with
….. 1/4 cup butter or oil
….. 1/2 cup of diced onions and
….. 1 teaspoon minced garlic
When the vegetables are tender
– Add 1 cup of vegetable bullion or chicken stock
– Mix 2 Tablespoons of corn starch in 1/4 cup of cold water and slowly add to the skillet while stirring constantly.
– Add 3/4 cup of sour cream along with salt and pepper to taste.
– Continue to stir until mixture thickens.
– More bullion or stock may be used to adjust the consistency as needed.

Canned mushrooms may be used in place of fresh mushrooms in this second recipe if you have no fresh mushrooms on hand.

Either of these sauces will add a rich flavor to your meal and fill the bill for a tasty gravy over potatoes, meat or vegetables. Enjoy!
