Collection of Recipes for Traditional Southern Dips

From back yard cook outs to family reunions, Southern tradition dictates that plenty of food be served. Dips are popular at these events and I’m willing to share a few dip recipe’s with you. There are several options for serving up traditional Southern dips. I’ve been to gatherings and had everything from fruit dip to shrimp dip and spinach dip. Don’t forget cheese dips for all of the cheese lovers out there. Let’s look at some options for easy Southern dips.

Rotel Cheese Dip

For a simple and quick cheese dip, get one 16 ounce package of pasteurized process cheese and cut into 1″ cubes. Add one 10 ounce can of Rotel milder diced tomatoes and green chilies, undrained.

Blend cheese and tomatoes in a medium saucepan. Cook over medium heat until cheese is melted. Serve warm with corn chips or dipping chips.

For Microwave: Blend cheese and tomatoes in a 2 quart microwave dish and cover. Microwave on medium heat for 10 to 12 minutes, stirring as needed. Dip is ready when cheese is completely melted. Stir and serve hot.

Note: Rotel Cheese Dip is a great dip to serve in a Crock-Pot and keeps warm for the duration of a party or get-together.

Easy Shrimp Dip

Ingredients are as follows:

1 pound shrimp, cooked and chopped

3/4 cup mayonnaise

1 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice

1 cup finely chopped onion

1 cup finely chopped celery

8 ounces cream cheese, softened

1/8 teaspoon garlic powder

Combine all ingredients together and mix well. Chill and serve with crackers. (Any kind of cracker is fine. Ritz are a good option or Captains Wafter’s)

Note: In order to keep cool when serving for a party, place dip in metal bowl on top of ice.

Fruit Dip

1 jar marshmallow creme

1 package cream cheese

3 tablespoons confectioners sugar

1/4 cup fruit juice

Mix together and serve with fresh fruit. This is a great dip for a chip and dip tray. Just place the dip in the center and place fresh fruit on the tray. For decoration, place an orange slice on the side of the dip bowl.

Coconut Fruit Dip

1 can crushed pineapple

3/4 cup milk

1/2 cup sour cream

1 package instant coconut cream pudding mix

Combine all ingredients in a blender and process until smooth. Serve with fresh pineapple, grapes and strawberries or other fruit. This can be a great centerpiece for the food table. Use an uncut pineapple in the center and arrange fresh fruits around it. Place dip in front of pineapple.
